FEFCO, the European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers (formerly Fédération Européenne des Fabricants de Carton Ondule, now European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers), is a non-profit organisation based in Brussels, which was founded in 1952. Its main objective is to represent the interests of the corrugated board industry in technical and economic matters.
A significant result of their efforts is the introduction of the FEFCO codeswhich is now recognised worldwide as the standard in the production of corrugated cardboard packaging. This code is used to standardise different types of shipping packaging by assigning them a four-digit code that describes their exact design.
This code enables manufacturers and consumers to identify and use the exact design of packaging.
On the FEFCO homepage you can download the current Download the FEFCO Code catalogue free of charge and without registration.
The first two digits of the FEFCO code indicate the basic type of packaging material:
01 = Commercially available rolls and sheets
02 = Folding cartons/folding boxes
03 = Lidded boxes/slip-on boxes
04 = Folded sleeves and trays
05 = Sliding boxes
06 = Moulded boxes
07 = Ready glued boxes (folding bottom boxes and erecting boxes)
09 = Interior fittings
